Shades of Grey

Woo! This is one of the paintings I did for my Studio Drawing class, that went missing over break. I was frantic looking for it because it's pretty much my favorite one from that class. (or at least in the top 3.)

Turns out I'd left it hiding in the scan tray on my printer, because I'd tried to scan it in rather than take a pic of it. My stupid printer won't let me scan it onto the comp. >.>

Okay, down to the important stuff! This was part of a series of paintings, where basically we had to have a theme. My theme was contrast, and one of those contrasts was good and evil. Naturally my little mind sprung to my two boys for this one. Not by any means an original composition, but goddamn if I don't love it. XD

The name comes not only from the color of the piece, but from the fact that neither Lucy or Joey is all dark or all light, despite the fact that they each sort of "represent" one side.

This is an inkwash, which is basically when you dilute ink with water and build up the values with it. Over the course of this class I learned to love this medium to pieces and want to become really proficient at it. Wooooooo
